Happy Mothers Day!!! On mother's day we went to Mesa Verde. It is one of the coolest parks we have gone to yet! Mesa Verde NP is where the Native Americans used to live in the cliffs, huts and pithouses. We got to Mesa Verde pretty early and got tickets for an early tour of Cliff Palace (a cliff dwelling). When the tour finally began we walked down into the cliff and into an ancient city. The people that used to live there haven't been there for about 700-800 years! The city had things called kivas that were used for spiritual ceremonies and daily work. They also had houses that were very well made and have been very well preserved. When rocks fall out of place the rangers put them back in, but the cliff dwellers cemant is actually better then ours! After that we went to see Spruce Tree House (another cliff dwelling) and got to climb down into a reconstructed kiva. We then had lunch and drove around the Mesa Top Loop where we could see more of the 6000 native dwellings in the park. We also saw how the Native Americans lived before they lived in the cliffs (when they just lived on the mesas.) They lived in Pithouses which are now holes in the ground, but back then were houses about 25ft in diameter. Tomorrow we will be going to the p Petrifed Forest NP and to Four Corners, where I'll be able to stand in 4 states all at the same time! Cool!!

Emily studied Mesa Verde in the fall and we thought it was amazing. Your pictures make us want to visit even more though!
